Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy
-
Therapy can be helpful whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, or have another mental health concern. It can also be helpful if you want additional support as you manage stress, experience a life transition, navigate relationship concerns, or learn more about yourself and your ways of interacting with the world. Most people who want to go therapy can benefit from therapy.

Psychologists have advanced training in treating mental health concerns and in understanding human behavior and thinking patterns. In most states, psychologists are required to have a doctorate degree in their field. Their education typically includes several years of supervised experience doing assessment, intervention, and research. Psychologists utilize the scientific research and incorporate evidence-based practices into their work. They are able to support clients through both short- and long-term psychotherapy for individuals presenting with a variety of mental health concerns. Ultimately, choosing a provider is a personal decision; finding one who you feel understands and supports you is a often a great foundation for your therapy relationship.

I have an office location in Sharonville, near Cincinnati, Ohio, where I see clients who prefer to be seen in-person. I also offer online therapy for those who prefer the ease of meeting from their home or other private location.
-
Yes! Research shows that telehealth can be just as effective as in-person therapy.

Online therapy is a great option for many people who desire to work toward their therapy goals. Clients report that the increased convenience is important to them— you do not have to account for travel time! You can meet from the privacy of your own home, private office, or vehicle (just make sure you are parked for the duration of the appointment). Some people feel more comfortable talking to a therapist when they are in the comfort of their own space. Telehealth also allows people to work a therapist who is a great fit, even if they are not located within driving distance of that provider.
-
Telehealth is not the right modality for some presenting concerns. It also requires a private space to meet, so it would not be a good fit if someone did not have access to this. It also would not be a good fit for someone who was not comfortable learning to use the technology required. It is my ethical and legal obligation to only agree to treat a client via online therapy when it is appropriate to do so.

I am a licensed psychologist and unable to prescribe medication. Typically, a primary care physician or psychiatrist would be the type of provider who could prescribe medications. I welcome the opportunity to collaborate with your prescribing doctor or help you identify options for a physician if you are in need of one.

I do not contract directly with insurance companies, which means that you would first pay for services out of pocket. I provide the option for clients to receive superbills, which is documentation that includes the necessary information for you to submit to your insurance company to attempt to utilize your out-of-network benefits. Many people are able to successfully utilize their benefits. If you are interested in learning more, I recommend you call your insurance company to see what your deductible is and what their reimbursement rates are for psychotherapy.

I typically schedule client appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 9am and 5pm. In-person appointments are currently limited to Tuesday.
-
I generally schedule our first appointment for 90-120 minutes so that I have plenty of time to learn about your background, history, and current concerns. At this appointment we also begin to discuss what you expect from therapy. Usually after the first appointment, I recommend having follow-up appointments once per week or once every other week so that we can get to work. As you start to see changes you desire, you may decide to meet less frequently, come in for maintenance sessions, or discontinue altogether.
